About: Wazir Mansion

Wazir Mansion, formally known as Quaid-I-Azam Birthplace Museum, is a previous family home in Karachi’s Kharadar area, viewed as Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s place of birth.

Birthplace of Quaid-e-Azam

It was the day of December 25, 1876, when our beloved homeland’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born. Previously, Jhirk, a small town near Karachi, was considered his birthplace, but later, this was false. The truth came forward in the book My Brother, written during the 1960s by Jinnah’s sister, Fatima Jinnah. Their father settled in Karachi based on his business partnership with Grams Trading Company, whose office was in Karachi. To date, Jinnah’s ancestors and family, including his daughter, son-in-law, and their children, live in Gujarat and Bombay. Jinnah’s father took the house (presently Wazir Mansion) on rent in 1874 and lived here for quite a while. By 1900, he again got back to his local state, Gujarat.

After the independence of Pakistan

The Government of Pakistan noticed the historic structure in 1953 and secured it under Ancient Monuments Preservation. After that, the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) was chosen for its preservation, and on August 14, 1953, it was officially introduced as Jinnah’s birthplace museum. The government did a task of conservation and recovery by 2010. This museum is a three-story building with a library and display centers.

Present condition

Currently, this house serves as a museum. Jinnah spent 16 years of adolescence, and youth is a valuable public landmark that gives our nation inspiration. Wazir Mansion was temporarily shut for renovation but was later opened for the visitors.
